Great Upcoming Holiday Events in Southwest Florida

Southwest Florida is a wonderful place to live with plenty of action for everyone, ranging from community events to attractions and beyond.

This week, there are several notable events and activities occurring that may catch your eye and give you a chance to enjoy yourself and your family in the great weather we’re scheduled to have over the next few days.

Santa’s Wonderland: Tuesday, Dec. 3

Tomorrow, Santa Claus is putting on his sunglasses and paying our part of the country a little visit!

Stop on by and let your children take a free photo made with Santa while enjoying free games and activities. If you stop by from 3pm to 5pm on Christmas Eve, you can also decorate Christmas cookies you can enjoy later (or leave for St. Nick).

Celebration of Lights: Friday, Dec. 6

Later this week, Ave Maria will host its annual Celebration of Lights, a fantastic holiday celebration involving an outdoor ice skating garden, festive drinks and food in the Town Center, a holiday parade, stage performances from the community, an inflatable obstacle course for the kids, a rock climbing wall, face painting, and unbeatable family fun that only Southwest Florida can offer.

The event starts at 5pm and lasts until 9pm, so arrive early so you can enjoy all Ave Maria will have to offer.

Festival of Lights: Saturday, Dec. 7

If you can’t make it to the Celebration of Lights (or just want a double dose of holiday spirit), head over to the CenturyLink Holiday Festival of Lights this Saturday in downtown Cape Coral. Here you can enjoy a massive holiday celebration, including pictures with Santa Claus, a Kidz Street play area your kids will love, a tree lighting, and the 25-ton snowdrift slide that you can’t miss.

Wherever you go and whatever you do, enjoy Southwest Florida, the upcoming holidays, and – of course – your friends and family!

One Sweet Bonita Springs Cuisine Option Highlighted on National TV

There are many reasons why people would want to not only visit Bonita Springs, Florida but also live here. You can take your pick: the fantastic weather; a wealth of amenities; luxurious attractions; and some of the best real estate in the country.

Another great reason – our local cuisine – is getting a bit of a highlight on national TV this Saturday. Amanda Buckner-Wood, of Perfectly Scrumptious on South Tamiami Trail, is competing for pride, glory, and a nice $10,000 prize on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars!

If you’ve ever seen the show, you know exactly what she’s up against. Amanda will compete against three other cupcake-creating teams to convince the panel of judges that her cupcakes look and taste better than the rest.  The contest is three rounds long; the final round has each final team making a show-stopping display complete with 1,000 cupcakes decorated and arranged to perfection.

This is actually Amanda’s second attempt to be on the show. She auditioned in 2012 but didn’t make it; fortunately, the second time was the charm.  The video she created and sent in apparently did the trick, and Amanda found herself in the spotlight.

We don’t know if she won, of course, but either way, it’s great to see a local, homegrown Bonita Springs bakery getting attention on such a huge stage.

Bonita Springs, in fact, has plenty of cuisine options that deserve attention.  Whether you’re at Angelina’s Ristorante (just outside Pelican Landing), Roy’s, or the fine dining options available at The Colony at Pelican Landing, you’re in for a treat.

Be sure to catch Amanda’s show by tuning into Cupcake Wars on Food Network this Saturday at 8pm. And win or lose, stop by her bakery to grab a taste of her baking prowess!
